Foxterrier

We had a lovely weekend on Foxhunter and Foxterrier to celebrate our Golden Wedding Anniversary. There were eight adults and six children and a beagle puppy. The boats were roomy and comfortable. Good showers and kitchen facilities. We elected to eat in and took quite a lot of prepared food and all squashed into the living area which was fun. It was a great way to please all ages as everyone could help in some way with locks and swing bridges and the pace of life was great. Thank you.

We have just had the pleasure of a weekend aboard Foxterrier . The whole operation was most impressive , from start to finish . We had not been on a canal boat before , but the handover was so well done and gave us the confidence to set out. All the onboard information was comprehensive and easy to interpret . The weather was not kind , but the boat was extremely cosy , clean and well equipped. Many thanks to all the team involved -- their attention to detail was excellent and we hope to return one day .

Hi, we had a wonderful week on Foxterrier , and really enjoyed the scenery and the area of the Avon valley all the way to Bath. The boat was really well fitted out with plenty of room for six of us including a 3-year-old who loved it all. Thanks to all your staff who helped make it a marvellous holiday, especially Patrick.

Very enjoyable holiday aboard Foxterrier, reaching Bristol on day 3 and spending time in Bath on the return leg. The Avon was particularly beautiful and very quiet. The boat was comfortable for 6 people and the familiarisation and return processes were well handled. A minor problem with one of the toilets had Sean on-site within an hour and the problem resolved with a pump-out shortly afterwards. Thanks Foxhangers for a great holiday!

We holidayed with fox hangers on the Kennet and Avon canal both for the first time this year, the boats are well equipped, and handed over with guidance and tuition. We would 100% recommend fox hangers and we will for sure be booking again for 2024. Thank you

A lovely family reunion holiday trip to Bath and back through beautiful countryside. The boat was well prepared and the handover excellent. Having managed several locks and swing bridges turnaround at Sydney Gardens in a 70ft canal boat was still a little daunting but actually easily achieved, allowing a few hours sightseeing in Bath. The return handover was very simple. Organising the trip with Foxhangers was pleasant and simple. Thank you for enabling our enjoyment.

We (all six of us)had a great week from 10th. - 20th. September. Devizes to Bath & back in Foxterrier. With perfect weather and beautiful countryside . Very relaxing ????

Thank you for a wonderful week on the canal, enjoyed by everyone from 4 to 72 including 2 dogs. The boat was well equipped and comfortable despite 8 of us plus dogs in a relatively small space. Particular thanks for your assistance in retrieving property that we foolishly left on board when we left.

I can honestly say it was one of the best weekends we’ve ever had, the combination of having the boat, the teamwork involved in sharing driving / lock opening duties, the adventure of planning each stop off / pub / town or village combined with a beautiful weekend of weather made such an incredible time for us, we didn’t want to leave. Thanks to Foxhangers for making it all so easy, the boat couldn’t have been better suited, we can’t wait for our next narrow boating trip!

Thank you very much for a fantastic holiday. We all thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from the initial professional and friendly briefing to the final hand back. “Foxterrier” was comfortable and equipped with everything we needed and, once we had grasped the basics, was great fun to handle. I just want to drop a note to say thank you so much for a fantastic trip on your boats over the weekend. From David's intro to the whole canal journey, it was seamless and brilliant. I am a total convert to canal boats as a brilliant holiday!

We all really enjoyed our first holiday on a narrow boat. The checking in was really good and the instructions to use the locks and the boat made things easier. Everyone was very friendly and helpful from booking to finishing the holiday. The boat had everything we needed, except maybe a sweeping brush! It was a different sort of holiday and one we will do again. My daughter, who is disabled was very worried about doing this holiday but it worked well as when she was in a lot of pain she could lie/sit on the bed and with the big window flaps open could watch the world go by and feed the ducks/swans out of the window by the bed. She thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Her teenage daughters also enjoyed it. Thank you Foxhangers for a very memorable holiday and experience!

We have had a wonderful time thank you. All the staff were very helpful upon arrival and keen to show us how to make the most of the boat. The boat is very well equipped with everything you need during your trip. It was all very clean and tidy.

Would like to thank you and all your staff for an amazing experience. It was our first time on the canal with limited experience and we were all a little nervous with what lay ahead. Once we had done a couple of locks, swing bridges we soon got into the groove. We were then able to relax and enjoy the canals the scenery and the amazing wildlife ahead of us. Had the most amazing time with Foxhangers on Foxterrier this past week. From start to finish it was really well organised, from the cleanliness of the boat to the instructions and handover. Equipped with everything you could ask for! First time on the canals and enjoyed every minute of it ... beautiful scenery and some wildlife too ???? Thanks very much to all the Foxhangers staff for ensuring our safety during these Covid times .. we'll be back and will thoroughly recommend ????

Foxhangers were excellent, we had a lovely week. We were on Foxterrier, 69ft. We made it to the Bath top-lock and back in our week, but we took it slow, including a full day each in both Bradford and Bath. The boat was very comfy and well-kitted, really, everything, and the induction was great.

The first thing to say is that the weather was kind to us; on the whole the sun shone and while it was windy at times it was enough to make boat handling interesting but manageable. In our six days we were able to head east to turn at Little Bedwyn, drop a crew member at Great Bedwyn and get back without rushing. We had relatively short and relaxing days with plenty of locks to keep us busy. The boat, Foxterrier is over 65 feet long but proved straight forward to drive, reliable and well maintained. She provided comfortable living and sleeping accommodation for the 5 / 6 of us and the galley facilities were entirely sufficient to provide several main meals on board. The team at Foxhangers were polite, helpful and well able to brief us thoroughly such that we left the boatyard with confidence in the boat, the chosen route, our ability to handle locks and safety matters - all very professional. In summary then, a great holiday helped by a great team at Foxhangers.

From the word "go" our experience of using Foxhangers has been a real pleasure... the booking process couldn't have been more friendly or informative... and the same goes for the welcome at the wharf, including an excellent pre-cruise briefing from Nick! The boat was extremely well equipped and buoyancy aids were provided for all 7 members of our crew. On return, we were treated to the same friendly greeting and the hand-back process was simply hassle free. Our sincere thanks for making our holiday a real success.

We have just spent 4 lovely days on board Foxterrier. The boat was clean, functional and fun. Staff briefing at start of our break was comprehensive, informative and mindful of our abilities. All in all a lovely time....thank you.

We all left the boatyard feeling pretty high after a great weekend on the water. Once we had learned to cut a straight line, we were off! The boats were really well equipped and comfortable - and the Foxhangers staff were great to deal with. Thanks!

We would like to extend our gratitude for providing us with such a pleasant enjoyable week on your vessel 'The Fox Terrier'. We thought you were extremely helpful and hospitable and would thoroughly recommend your company to friends and family. Amelia was particularly welcoming and friendly. We tried our utmost to give the boat a scrub and a once over at the end of the week but apologise if anything was found slightly damaged or dirty. We had a wonderful week and will hopefully see you again in the future sometime.

We had an amazing weekend with Foxhangers. They are a very friendly, relaxed and efficient company. Having never been on a narrow boat before I really didn’t know what to expect but I needn’t have worried. The boat was really comfortable and I soon got the hang of it. I even steered the boat! Definitely recommend Foxhangers to all.

We have used Foxhangers several times over the years. Great boats, clean and well appointed, The staff are fantastic and helpful and the ease of access and set-up at the wharf is great and painless. The stretch of canal down to Bath is stunningly beautiful and there are many all important canal side pubs to choose from and plenty to do by way of locks and swing bridges. Everyone you meet is helpful and pleasant. Highly recommended!!

This was the second time we have used your boats, once in October 2014 and of course last week. On both occasions we had lovely time. We have been canal boating for 40 years on and off, but up until last October we hadn't been in recent years. We found everything easier, even buying milk was easier than it used to be. We found all the Staff at Foxhangers to be friendly and professional. If we boat again it will definitely be with you, we need to do the other side. Thank you again for lovely holiday, just ploughing through the washing.

Yet another fantastic break on Foxterrier! This member of the Foxy Fleet suits us down to the ground and, at 69 feet, it had plenty of space for the family (even the father in law, haha!). All of our group really enjoy this kind of holiday as there is something for everyone to do whether at the tiller, operating the locks, walking the dog of just chilling out on the boat. We had the most magical time on Fox Terrier. The boat was much easier to control than expected the facilities were great and beds comfortable. Your staff were very informative and helpful and would definitely come again.

To all the staff at Foxhangers, a big thankyou. We hired Foxterrier for a short break from the 11th March 2013. Before our holiday commenced we were very impressed with all the information you sent us through the post - especially the map of the canal which was a welcomed touch. Any questions we may have had were answered in this pack. All Foxhanger people we met were very welcoming and friendly. We were all extremely delighted with how well appointed and equipped the boat was (as is no doubt all of your fleet). Despite the obvious contraints of being on a narrowboat, we did find it to be reasonably spacious - even the two toilet/shower facilities. Obviously a lot of thought had gone into the interior design to get the absolute most out of the space available. Everything was so clean and ready to use and the beds were very comfortable. Although the weather was quite cold during our trip, we were pleased to wake up in the mornings to piping hot water for washing/showers etc. It was truly the best boat we've ever hired over the 15 years we've been boating. Naturally we would be very pleased to return for a longer holiday next time. If I had to say anything negative, it would only be to provide provision to stand a cup of tea/coffee somewhere whilst relaxing in bed - hardly worth a mention. Genuinely we thought it was good value for money for exceptionally comfortable accommodation. We've already recommended you to our work coleagues and friends.

We booked the Foxterrier for a weekend in October 2012 for a (surprise) 60th birthday break, a 69 foot, 6-9 berth boat, which we all took a turn to drive. It was our first experience of this type of holiday. The boat layout was perfect for the three couples in our party, two shower rooms, two double bedrooms and one bunk room, although we used the convertible double bed in the saloon instead of the bunks. The boat was very well equipped, cosy and comfortable, the heating system was really efficient and there was plenty of hot water for the showers (you do have to refill the tank along the way). The handover/instruction from Dave was excellent. We were so lucky with the weather and everyone we passed along the canal were very friendly and, of course, we visited several very nice pubs along the way. If you love photography, you'll love the many opportunities to capture the wild life and the changing scenery, I was chuffed to bits to see and photograph a kingfisher. We would definitely book with Foxhangers again, all the staff involved were extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you Foxhangers for a truly memorable weekend.

I booked this boat as a surprise holiday for my husbands 50th birthday, the office staff were excellent at helping to keep the surprise. The boat was as always clean and well laid out. There were 6 adults and 2 dogs in our crew and we had plenty of space on board. The weather was typical for this year, rain and showers but it didn't spoil the holiday. The Foxhangers crew were very helpful and even delivered us a replacement windlass (we lost one at the bottom of lock 68) before we came back down the Caen Flight. We have used Foxhangers before which was the reason for choosing them this time, I knew we would get a great boat and great service, which we did. The surprise was kept until my husband arrived at the boat, he was absolutely thrilled and we had a great week with our sons. Thank you to all at Foxhangers.

We had the best time on the 9 berth Foxterrier on a long weekend break in July.It rained almost continuously but it didn't matter in the slightest. All 4 kids had something to do running up and down the Caen Hill Locks, opening and closing gates, letting down paddles and generally having a ball. Thank goodness for the wet-weather gear included on the boat! The canal boat had excellent facilities, it was so warm and toasty when we finally settled in for the evening and put the heating on. There was plenty of room for all of us and the hot showers were great!! All the staff, from the office to the wharf at Foxhangers are brilliant. So friendly, helpful and really quite laid back considering the size of the boats we were expected to handle!! I would absolutely recommend hiring a canal boat from Foxhangers. We're hooked and will definitely come back for a longer stint on the Kennet and Avon canal. Big thanks to everyone involved in the making of this experience which is now fantastic childhood memory!

We had a fantastic mid week break aboard Foxterrier in mid June. The boat was first class throughout and the service and briefing from the staff was excellent. We had no problems whatsoever with the boat during the trip, everything that was needed was on board and we had all the information for our trip along the canal. Foxterrier is a 6-9 berth with 2 bathrooms and a well fitted Galley and Lounge area, very comfortable and large enough for large groups or families. Excellent value, excellent holiday and an excellent company, will use again.

We had a brilliant time on Foxterrier. As you know we had planned to be out on our shard ownership boat but at short notice we were unable to do so and we were pleased to find a boat at short notice and a good price. The experience was perfect from the moment we arrived at your base to the time we sadly drove away for home. Fox terrier was so well laid out and well equipped for our party of 5 and well located for a good trip including up and down Caen Hill ! Maybe we will be able to book again in the near future. We were all complete novices to canal holidays and were a bit daunted by hiring one of the largest boats but the staff at Foxhangers were friendly and explained everything really well. Off we went on what turned into one of the best holidays I have ever had. With three generations of family on one boat there was something around every corner for everyone, picturesque countryside, wildlife, great pubs and plenty of interesting people to meet en route. The boat was well equipped and comfortable with plenty of room for all seven of us and a dog. I would definitely recommend Foxhangers to anyone planning a canal holiday. Thanks

We have just had a most enjoyable and relaxing week on Foxterrier. Very impressed with both the cleanliness and standard of equipment on the boat. The Foxhanger's staff were extremely helpful on arrival and at departure time. We went west to Bradford on Avon. The Kennet and Avon canal was tranquil and very beautiful. Importantly for us, there were lots of child friendly pubs en route.

We had a mid-week break on "Foxterrier", 19 - 23 October 2009. Most of our previous boating experience has been from Calcutt in Warwickshire where the Royal Navy keep three narrowboats for off-service and retired RN personnel. They are 60 footers, understandably Spartan by comparison with "Foxterrier", but strangely, they don't handle as well. Although a bit longer, "Foxterrier" was very responsive to the helm and easy to manoeuvre, precisely and with confidence. First class boat, very well appointed, and to echo a previous testimonial, great to have all the galley kit you could possibly want. We tend to go for on-board catering, having arrived too many times at pubs that don't offer food on whichever day it is we arrive, have stopped serving 10 minutes previously, the kitchen is closed etc. Very much liked the canal, going Devizes to Bath and return, which compares well with the best parts of the Warwickshire Ring, the Stratford and Oxford Canals, Grand Union South, Leicester section, and Ashby Canal. Thanks also for recommending the "Cross Guns" at Avoncliff. I have just looked at their web site. Its all that they say it is, and more, excellent food and selection of beers. A walk around the attractions of Bath was, expectedly, a good half day well spent. But Bradford on Avon is also a bit of a gem. Thanks again.

Thanks for a wonderful week on the Kennet & Avon - four adults and four children (not forgetting the dog!) on Fox Terrier. The boat was comfortable and superbly equipped - we have many years experience of self-catering holidays both abroad and in UK, afloat and on dry land, and I don't think I have ever had such a well-equipped kitchen! We managed to cook a celebration dinner for 8 for a family birthday with no difficulty at all. Despite fear and trepidation that it might be difficult to handle such a large narrowboat, it was no trouble at all and the "walk-through" by a member of your staff was thorough and all-encompassing. We were blessed with fantastic weather and travelled down to Bath and beyond through some of the most beautiful countryside. Thank you again for marvellous customer service - I have already mentioned your name to most of my friends and work colleagues!

We hired out Foxterrier for 8 members of our family at the end of June 09 for a midweek break and had a great time. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we explored some new hostelries en route to Bathampton and back. This is our 2nd holiday with you and would not hesitate to come back for a 3rd. Well, from the start of contacting Foxhangers via email we knew we'd made the right choice, attentive, friendly, cheerful bunch of people!! We hired Foxterrier a 9 berth boat for a 4 day break for a skipper, crew of 7 & baby ,well I can say it was a first class boat & service, we made it to bath & back & had some spectacular views along the way(& bacon butties..!!)the boat was fitted out very comfortably & had everything on it to make it a home from home!!! Can't wait to go again next year!

I am writing to thank everyone concerned for a fabulous weekend on board Foxterrier. It was a surprise for my husband's 60th birthday and he new nothing until we turned into your gate on Friday. I am pleased to say that he enjoyed every minute of the weekend as did our children and their partners and especially our 2 year old granddaughter. The boat is superb and was well fitted out and very clean. The bottle of wine and the chocolates in the fridge were a very nice touch and our first experience of narrow boating has not disappointed us and we possibly now have the bug and will be back again.”
